"The Invisible Man"

I finished the book last night. I did not expect it to end that way let alone any ending at all. Wells did a great job making the book unpredictable unlike the other books people write nowadays.
I felt pity and apathy towards the Invisible Man. He, using the tools of science, became invisible, but he did not foresee the difficulties of being invisible such as the fact that he cannot wear any clothing to stay invisible so he was terribly cold. Terribly cold, given that he was living in London. Also everyone thought they went crazy after encountering the Invisible Man who seemed like a ghost, but in fact, the Invisible Man went insane. He called himself "the Terror." I can't even describe how quickly the circumstances turned and escalated to murder. Can someone really get that angry and upset to escalate to murder? Even hearing stories of people in the present day murdering other people still astonishes me. We, as humans, were made not to kill but to make new people, but each person has emotions, which some cannot handle. I really enjoy spending time thinking about questions like this... beats thinking about school work haha.
The next book I'm reading is The War of the Worlds also by H. G. Wells. Science-fiction is very interesting and I think I might be developing a liking for that genre after reading The Invisible Man.

Reading This Summer

I think I am going to take up reading this summer. I haven't devoted time to reading since high school but I want to do so this summer. The first book I am attempting is The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells.
Also hey it beats watching tv on Netflix all day!!

It is a pretty short book but its very interestingly written. Because it dates back to 1898, the English is very interesting. Also this book is supposed to be a science-fiction novel, a genre I have never read. I have finished most of the book and the science he introduces discussing how the man became invisible was thoughtfully played as to not include false statements but also leaves questions as to how the scientist became invisible. It really did spark a lot of thought about whether this is truly possible. Also the main character has a terrible temper, which I think is gonna cause him a lot more trouble than it already has. Imagine being invisible, being irritated at the slightest thing, and losing everything now that invisibility is irreversible. My next post is going to be reflection on that.

Thanks for reading :)

Working for the First Time Ever

I got hired by a professor at Mason and I think I'm going to like this job. I am really interested in his research because it brings together my previous love for biology with my newly found computer science. Also on top of that, this is my first job ever. The paperwork with HR was more nerve-racking than I imagined but it is worth it because I'll get paid doing something I am truly going to enjoy.

As a first project, the professor wanted me to learn some applicable skills on my own by analyzing a data set called the Acid Mine Drainage data set. It contains sequence data (DNA sequences) regarding the biofilm located in an acidic mine located in California. First I had to actually find the data set (this took the most amount of time this week). Then I have to put the sequences through several databases such as Greengenes, Silva, and others. This gave me pretty interesting results but now my job is to figure out how the bacteria the sequences were similar to correlate with the metadata or conditions the data was collected. Cool isn't it?

I sure am excited for another week at this job. I have to discuss what I found with the professor on Tuesday but I think I am going to have a lot to say because I get to draw on my knowledge in Biology. Woo!!
